BIBLE WORD OF THE WEEK - IMPUTATION
This week's Bible Word of the Week is IMPUTATION.
DEFINITION - the act of attributing or ascribing righteousness, sin, or guilt to someone.
Imputation is derived from the Latin word "imputare" which means "to reckon" or "to charge to one's account."
In Scripture, the Greek uses the word "logizomai", (G3049 in the Strong's Concordance) which means "to reckon" or "to consider".
There are three incidences of imputation in Scripture. The first imputation is when Adam sinned, God imputed his sin upon all of humanity (Romans 5:19)
The second imputation is when Christ died on the cross, God imputed the sin of those who would be redeemed upon Christ (1 Peter 2:24)
The third imputation is when God imputed Christ's righteousness upon those whom He redeemed (Philippians 3:9)
The second and third incidence of imputation is called The Great Exchange. This is when Christ took our sins upon Himself and gave us His righteousness so that when God looks upon the redeemed, He sees Christ's righteousness instead of our sin.
