SET APART - NOT DUMBED-DOWN

I’ve always found cliché Christianity to be cringey. When we rely on clichés, we end up making the faith sound shallow and dumbed down. Some people argue that we need to “simplify” things so the unsaved can understand the gospel better — and to a point, I agree. There are times when words like justification or sanctification need to be explained in simpler terms.

But there’s a big difference between making truth clear and watering it down. We are called to be set apart from the world — not to sound like it. Speaking in a way that strips depth or reverence from the gospel doesn’t make it more approachable; it just makes it less powerful.

The Holy Spirit is more than capable of opening minds and hearts to understand Scripture. It may not happen instantly, but it happens in His timing.

And don’t even get me started on cheesy church signs. Church-sign theology and bumper-sticker faith might get a chuckle, but they often do more to trivialize truth than to proclaim it.
