A God of Your Own Choosing

There is a segment of Christianity that seems to think that if you speak it, it will happen.

You want more money? Just speak it into existence.
You want healing? Just say, "I am healed of my_______" (whatever illness you have), and it will go away.
You want a new job? Just make the claim, "I have that new job!!" and it will happen.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. Our words don't have that kind of power. The only One who can and DID speak things into existence is God Himself.

See, these people believe that God is a genie in a bottle who's just sitting around waiting to be at our beck and call.

God doesn't "obey" us, we "obey" God.

We are given the privilege as His children to come to Him with our requests, but God answers according to HIS will, not ours. This is why in the Model Prayer Jesus said we are to pray, "Your kingdom come, YOUR will be done". He always, ALWAYS acts according to His own will and good pleasure.

He answers us based on what is best for us, not on what we want and that's why many times people think that if they pray for something in particular and it doesn't happen the way they expected, then (a) God didn't hear (b) God didn't act, OR (c) God didn't have the power to make it happen.

God hears and God acts and He certainly has the power to answer, but He won't do so according to our expectations, and people have a problem with a God they can't control.

So, they create a "god" who is different from Scripture. Oh, they may read the Bible and say they believe it, but they make God to be like them and not Who He really is in Scripture. That's a false god that's popular with a lot of people these days. That's an idol. Their god isn't sovereign. Their god is weak. Their god is not in control of anything. It's no wonder why people think God isn't in control of anything, and it's no wonder they think God has no power to answer prayer. They're serving the wrong God.
