TETELESTAI
TETELESTAI - GREEK (Strong's G5055)
DEFINITION: to end, i.e. complete, execute, conclude, discharge (a debt)--accomplish, make an end, expire, finish, go over, pay, perform.
TETELESTAI was a term used in banking transactions. When someone took out a loan and made the last payment, the final payment was marked with "tetelestai" to show the debt was paid off.
Jesus spoke the word TETELESTAI from the cross to show that the sacrifice has been completed; the debt has been paid.
John 19:28 and 30 both use the word TETELESTAI:
(28) After this, Jesus, knowing that all was finished, said (to fulfill Scripture), "I thirst."
(30) When Jesus has received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
