RENEW YOUR MIND

How are you thinking today?

Some of you may be thinking, "Shouldn't that be WHAT are you thinking?"

No, HOW are you thinking.

Are you thinking biblically?  Are you setting your mind on things above or on those things that hinder you in your spiritual growth?

What's going through your mind this morning?

Maybe today you are in a state of panic or fear over things you have no control over.  Whether it's:
  • How will I pay my bills if I get laid off?
  • What if those tests come back and show I have cancer or heart disease?
  • What if I can't afford my medications AND groceries, too?
In Romans 8:28 we read:

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.

We also read in Ecclesiastes 3:1:

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every matter under heaven;

God never promised us that as His children our life here on planet earth was going to be easy.  When sin entered into the picture, so did pain, suffering, trials, and sickness.  But no matter what we go through in this life, God has a purpose for it.

Maybe your sickness was a way for God to show that He does still heal.

You may say, "Okay but what if He doesn't heal my sickness and I die?".  Well, if you're a believer, you just got fast-tracked to your heavenly home and you're more healed there than you would've been if you stayed on earth.

Maybe losing your job was meant for you to learn to trust Him for your daily provisions AND for your next job.  We have to learn that nothing is dependent upon us.  Of course, yes, we have to go out looking for a new job, but in the end, it's God who determines if we get that job.  Part of learning dependence upon God is learning patience.  God works in His timing, not ours.

The purpose of this post is to help you understand, HOW we think can set the tone for what kind of day we'll be having.  In the instance I spoke of above, we can sit and wallow in fear and worry over something we can't control, or we can choose to keep our minds focused on the things of God.

Keep this verse Philippians 4:8 in mind today:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is dignified, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, consider these things.

Fill your mind with godly things and the fear and worry will disappear.
